I studied at the University of Glasgow and graduated with an M.A. (Hons) in English Language. While there I also studied English Literature, Scottish Literature, French and did a Creative Writing course. Following graduation I promptly forgot all of my French and spent a year rewriting chapter one of my novel. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with myself and so at the end of the summer went straight back to university and completed an M.Phil in English Language which involved research into a medieval manuscript. I still had no idea what I wanted to do so in the meantime I found a job and continued to rewrite chapter one, incorporating colleagues from said job as thinly veiled characters.
I am a great film-lover and have been for as long as I can remember. I am an obsessive collector of DVDs, BluRays, soundtracks, memorabilia and film books and an absorber of trivia and film history. I talk in film quotes and think in film references – absolutely everything reminds me of one film scene or another and, unfortunately for my friends, I have a compulsive need to share this with whoever happens to be around. I read voraciously and buy books so often that my reading list is now years long. I listen to music most of the time I’m awake and still buy CDs. I like my books to be made of paper and my music to come on discs (with artwork). I am developing an interest in photography and can spend hours online looking at photo blogs and timelapse videos.
Just now I am still deciding what I want to do with myself. In the meantime I am relearning French, rewriting chapter one (and beyond) and starting this blog. I blog about films in all their shapes and sizes: classics and contemporary; respectable and disreputable; silent and talkie; genre and mainstream.
One day I will finish my novel, write a book on Brian De Palma, have a conversation in fluent French and play perfect guitar. Until then I’ll watch too many films and blog too many opinions.
